Extover®

Extover is a specially processed glass granulate designed for preventive and active fire protection. It acts as an inert, non-conductive filling and covering material that dampens heat buildup, reduces oxygen access, and absorbs leaking liquids. This helps to minimize the spread of fire and limit damage in the event of an incident.

In practice, Extover is used as bedding and covering material in safety boxes, transport and storage containers, and collection trays. When storing or charging lithium-ion batteries, the granulate helps to contain thermal events locally and separate flammable materials. It can also absorb contaminating substances such as electrolytes, oils, or coolants.

The material is made from expanded recycled glass, is inorganic, odorless, and corrosion-free. It is lightweight, dimensionally stable, non-hygroscopic, and easy to handle, dose, and dispose of. Its spherical grain structure allows it to flow smoothly into cavities, evenly surrounding batteries, chargers, and components.

For effective use, a sufficient layer thickness is recommended so that batteries and potential ignition sources are completely embedded. In storage and transport containers, full encapsulation with reserve volume has proven effective. Contaminated granulate should be disposed of according to current regulations based on the absorbed substance.
