The Legacy Aviation Super Chipmunk 2M by Extreme Flight is an outstanding blend of classic scale appearance and uncompromising aerobatic performance. Inspired by the legendary Super Chipmunk conversions of the 1960s – most notably the IO540-powered N540SC – this model combines iconic design with modern 3D flight capabilities.
Thanks to its highly modified wing and tail geometry, the Super Chipmunk is fully 3D capable and performs precise aerobatic maneuvers just as confidently as slow, clean circuits. Large, oversized flaps allow extremely slow flight speeds and impressive STOL characteristics. Compared to high-speed “slick” or Extra-style models, it flies slightly slower but is exceptionally smooth, predictable, and elegant.
The high-quality wooden structure made from laser-cut balsa and plywood is reinforced with carbon fiber in critical areas. Despite its massive 2032 mm wingspan, the take-off weight is only around 4.5 kg. In the air, the model feels remarkably light, precise, and well balanced.
Many assemblies are pre-fabricated to save build time: all control surfaces are pre-hinged, aileron and elevator hinge gaps are sealed, and numerous thoughtful details make the build straightforward and efficient. The pre-vented cowling ensures excellent motor cooling.
