EasySafeBox – A Detailed Look at Its Construction and Interior

With new detailed images, we are providing an in-depth look at the construction and interior of the EasySafeBox. This safety box has been specifically developed for storing and charging lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries and is designed to significantly reduce the effects of a potential thermal runaway.

One of the key features of the EasySafeBox is its double-wall construction. The space between the walls is filled with Extover® extinguishing granulate in different grain sizes. Special Extover® cushions can also be placed inside the storage compartment. These cushions contain additional extinguishing granulate and are positioned directly next to the stored batteries.

If a thermal runaway occurs inside the box and generates intense heat, the Extover® cushions open. The extinguishing agent is released and distributed over the affected batteries. This can significantly reduce the temperature, limit the oxygen available to the fire and help contain the thermal reaction.

The double-wall construction is designed to provide protection in both directions. It helps shield the surrounding environment from a battery fire inside the box while also protecting the stored batteries from external heat or fire exposure.

Another part of the safety concept is the integrated filter area in the lid. It is intended to retain escaping hot gases and particles or reduce their release. We are currently determining the optimum combination of different filter materials in preparation for the upcoming fire tests.

The robust EasySafeBox is manufactured from 1.5 mm AlMg3 aluminium and finished with a matt powder coating. Laser cutting, bending and powder coating are carried out in Augsburg. Final assembly, filling, quality control and shipping take place at our facility in Memmingen.

The first fully assembled prototype has now been completed. The next stage will involve comprehensive fire tests under realistic conditions, during which the complete construction will be evaluated and further optimised.

The EasySafeBox is suitable for the safe storage of RC batteries, receiver batteries, power-tool and garden-tool batteries, power banks, vapes and many other lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries.
