The SE5A was a development of the former biplane SE5 (Scout Experimental 5), which was to become superior to the German air force towards the end of World War I. Developed by HP Folland at the Royal Aircraft Factory, the early SE5 was underpowered and suffered a number of handling problems as well as weaknesses in the landing gear. However, the basic design was so promising that the concerns were addressed and resolved - the result was the much more successful SE5A.

The model from this kit is constructed using the traditional Stick and Tissue method, which consists of an assembled balsa wood framework covered with a tissue skin.

The balsa frameworks are built on a construction plan printed to the exact scale of the model, which is essentially a true construction drawing. They are powered by a rubber motor that is wound up before flight.

Contents of the construction kit:
  • Balsa boards with precision laser-cut parts
  • Adhesive for the construction of the wooden structure
  • Plastic propeller Ø 150 mm
  • Shaft with bent motor hook
  • low-friction plastic nose bushes for propellers and impellers
  • deep-drawn canopy
  • Wire for the main undercarriage and tail wheel
  • Motor pin
  • Engine rubber
  • Japanese paper for the covering
  • Parts reference sheet
  • full-scale building plan
  • Scheme diagram sheet
  • Scheme markings
