With the speed sensor as an add-on to the UniLog 1 and 2 it is possible to measure and record airspeeds from 0 to 450km/h. The speed is measured by measuring dynamic pressure (i.e. air pressure generated by the airspeed) and ambient air pressure. The speed measurement is done by measuring dynamic pressure (i.e. the air pressure generated by the airspeed) and ambient air pressure.

For the UniLog 2 there is also a special version for speed fliers with a measuring range up to 600/1000km / h. This differs only in the measuring range of the air pressure. This differs only in the measurement range of the pressure transducer used.

The sensors can each be switched by a Lötbrke in the measuring range from 250 to 450km / h or from 600 to 1000km / h. By selecting the lower value, the resolution can be improved in the lower range. Since the dynamic pressure increases quadratically with speed, very low speeds are difficult to measure with this type of sensor. The sensible range of application therefore starts at around 30km/h. Below that, of course, is also measured, but the error and the noise are correspondingly larger.

The speed sensor consists of two parts:

The pitot tube is designed as a Prandtl tube. Here, the ambient pressure is measured directly at the pitot tube üvia the annularly mounted holes. In this way, the system is independent of the pressure conditions in the fuselage (e.g. incoming cooling air).
Präzision differential pressure sensor with connection to the UniLog. Power is supplied from the UniLog.

The connection between pitot tube and sensor is über two dünne silicone hoses.
