It was a revolution when the Luscombe Model 8, later called the Luscombe Silvaire, entered the two-seat light aircraft market in 1937, because the aircraft had a fuselage with a self-supporting metal outer skin and was thus far ahead of its time. The design was perfected in 1946 by a new wing with a self-supporting metal outer skin. Another special feature was that the boxer engine was completely covered. Other manufacturers later followed these technical innovations specified by the Luscombe Aircraft Corporation.
The construction of our model was strongly inspired by the original. Especially the self-supporting outer skin made of very light but strong balsa wood, which gets sensible reinforcements where forces are introduced, gives fuselage, tail unit and wing halves a high surface quality and of course stability. The wing halves are plug-mounted in the fuselage by means of lightweight and high-strength carbon fiber rods, so the model is easy to transport despite its impressive dimensions.
Building the model from precision laser-cut parts becomes a simple undertaking. The components are interlocked in such a way that construction errors can be practically ruled out.
With the help of the familiar aero-naut style building instructions with 3D step-by-step drawings, building success will be achieved quite quickly, especially in joint building projects in youth groups. Our designer also paid special attention to good and safe flight characteristics due to a specially modified airfoil for our Luscombe Silvaire. Since the original was also used as a training aircraft, our model is also very well suited for training and youth work.
The model is perfectly suitable as a trainer, but due to the semi-scale construction it clearly stands out from classic trainer models. Of course, experts will also enjoy the moment when they let their individual aero-naut Luscombe Silvaire hover over the field in a few meters. Since about 2,800 originals exist worldwide and many of them in great color designs, our Luscombe Silvaire is also very suitable as a first semi-scale model.
The creation of a clean and above all individual finish by means of iron-on foil will be very successful even for beginners thanks to the supporting outer skin of all assemblies. All assemblies are iron-on foiled before final assembly, and since there are no complicated shapes or open ribbed panels, the beginner can create his own special model without difficulty.
Multi-colored designs are very easy to create. Experts may well consider a GRP finish. For propulsion, the designer has provided a motor of about 300-350 watts, which on 3-4S LiPo with 3,000 mAh and an aero-naut CAMcarbon light prop 10×6" to 11x5" provides enormous take-off power and very efficient and economical half-throttle performance. However, the stable and true to form construction also allows aerobatics and thanks to the good control action over all axes, the model is precise to fly.
The very low minimum speed can be reduced even further if the ailerons are configured on the transmitter side as so-called flaperons, i.e. the ailerons can additionally be lowered as landing flaps.
The model kit contains: All wood parts required for construction, precision laser-cut, cut spars, curved landing gear with tires, linkage parts, wing struts, Bowden cables, detailed building instructions with 3D building level drawings.
